aRts crashing at startup

Slackware -current
KDE-3.5.2
arts-1.5.2

For a little more than a month now aRts has been crashing on me when I log into KDE. I disabled KDE's soundserver because I couldn't figure out the problem, but now I'd really like to use AmaroK and I can't seem to use it without aRts functioning properly.

Here's a backtrace:

When I do a 'ps aux | grep arts | grep -v grep' I get:

This remains there even after crashes.

Can anyone make sense of this? Any suggestions?

Note, don't know if it would be relevant but, I completely removed Dropline Gnome and replaced it with Freerock Gnome. However, I can't recall if aRts started crashing after this switch.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! If you need any more information from me, please let me know.

Never mind.

I found the xine engine option in AmaroK (don't know how I missed it before).

I've disabled aRts as I don't need it for anything.

yes but can you resolve this? I have the same problem and would like everything working as they should.
