Armada V300- Laptop Mouse Problems w/ X

Compaq Armada V300 Laptop Prob's
I can use the mouse in the console but not in X.
Using KDE
Slack 9
Do I need to get the synaptics linux driver or do
i get the mouse drivers from hp? Which for some reason don't have linux drivers for it, only drivers for windows systems..
aargh.. oh well
it worked well for the Dell Latitude C640 I set slack up on.

already ran xf86config ?
if yes, try editing your /etc/X11/XF86Config manually
there should be a section looking something like this ->

Code:

Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier  "Mouse1"
    Driver      "mouse"
    Option "Protocol"    "IMPS/2"
    Option "Device"      "/dev/mouse"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

if you have a wheelmouse than

Code:

Option "Protocol"    "IMPS/2"

is very likely to work...otherwise you could try

Code:

Option "Protocol"    "PS/2"

btw, this is how I got my touchpad working:

    Identifier  "Mouse2"
    Driver      "mouse"
    Option      "Protocol"      "PS/2"
    Option      "Device"        "/dev/psaux"

and at the bottom of the file:

    InputDevice "Mouse2" "SendCoreEvents"
