Are there any kde 4.3 packages for 13 - Page 4

Everything appears to be working OK so far. No problems with menus, icons, whatever. Some new wallpapers. No nagging from Nepomuk Strigi. Fingers, eyes, and legs crossed - it looks like a good un.

Thanks for the information brianL. Which packages have you tried ? Have you upgraded all KDE 4.2.4 with the supplied 4.3.1 or are you running both versions alongside ? (Actually I'm not even sure if the second option is possible - I'll have to look into this stuff a bit more).

Complete upgrade, using all vbatts packages, running as Eric suggested:

Upgraded here as well, so far so good.
Also it's better to upgrade whilst in console, make sure you are not in KDE.
And backup your older settings

Well, I'm going to revisit this again in a few minutes. I'm going to drop to init 3, save the old ~/.kde, and upgrade, install new again for these packages. Redoing the config won't be that hard.

All-righty, then. The deed is done, and I am in KDE-4.3.1. This time, I got it right. The problem(s) with Dolphin and Konqueror have disappeared. Both Dolphin and Konqueror are now blazing fast compared to 4.2.4. I am actually really enjoying this.

I had forgotten that I had built a package for knemo, but this upgrade has had no effect on knemo. It still is functioning normally. The K Menu is just a bit different, with System Settings now found in Settings and not System. There may be others, but that's not a big deal.

My taskbar is not transparent, and I can't seem to remember where to change that, but I haven't looked too hard yet. The taskbar itself is better looking. I have a dozen apps open, and cpu usage is very quiet. All buttons are active and all apps jump to the top when called. These include OpenOffice, the Gimp, k3b, and 9 others. No problems switching. Oh yea, and I had that goofy Amor running around the desktop as well.

So far, so good.

I agree, I switched to 4.3.1 about a week ago, and all the problems I had with 4.2.4 are now gone, so I am happy. The only thing I had a problem with was I had to recompile the kde-workspace package to re-enable compiz wallpaper support.

I did the upgrade at runlevel 3, but I didn't delete or move my ~/.kde beforehand. However, everything is OK, so the outcome - good or bad - might depend on what's in there. ?.

i have also upgraded 4.3.1 and have had no issues what so ever,downloaded to tmp/ upgradepkg --install-new *.t?z

i did rm -r ~/.kde though just to be sure.

dolphin seems really fast and the amount of memory overhead has also been reduced.

it seems so much more snappier now,really pleased with this upgrade thanks for all the guidance in the previous posts

I tried out Amarok this morning. No problems with it, except that the playlist was missing. The collection was still there, just no playlists. Easy enough to redo.The computer runs 24/7, so I was wondering what a few hours of idle time would do, but it snapped back to life this morning with no problems.

Even nepomukitymuk seems to behave with this release. At least, I have had no problems yet related to nappymuk, or any other problems with anything. I'm still diligently looking. I may crash this puppy yet!

I just rebooted back to init 4. Since I am the only user on this machine, its set to go straight to the desktop (KDE). No login or password required. That worked perfectly just like it has in any other KDE version. Still good to go.

Not cool. K3B is not working with kde4.3.1 library. It just hangs at 100% and stays that way for minutes. I tried burning an ISO image on a Blank DVD and it burnt till 100% within 14mins and then stayed that way for 30mins. Then I thought my DVD or ISO maybe corrupt so I tried burning it on a DVD-rw, same thing. So I switched to windows and tried burning and it worked. Can anyone please check this out with a DVD-rw?

I had the same problem with k3b and 4.2.4. I simply used growisofs and the cli to burn iso images. K3b is just not yet ready.
