Well I am sorry of that...

Did you try the normal way ? (reported to work)
Code:

installpkg wxgtk-2.4.2-i486-1tsu.tgz
installpkg xchm-0.9.6-i486-1cy.tgz
installpkg chmlib-0.35-i486-1cy.tgz

(all packages available at www.linuxpackages.net)

OK...This is round 2...and this
time I'm trying to install chm on my laptop that runs Slackware. And this time I have a better understanding of installpkg and removepkg...

I've got all of the .tgz (wxgtk 2.6.2, chmlib-0.37, and xchm-1.2) and installed them in the order that was suggested above.

When I go to /usr/bin and do
Code:

./xchm
I get this error output
Code:

root@probot:/usr/bin# ./xchm
-su: ./xchm: cannot execute binary file

All of the packages are installed under /usr/share...and what the hell and I doing wrong?

EDIT: Kchm installed and works...nevermind....

I don't know if you use KDE, but I use kchmviewer. I grabbed a package from Linux Packages. As this was already a Slack package, I experienced no issues and the utility works great.

I encountered the same problem. After I installed wxGTK-2.6.2, chmlib-0.37, and xchm-1.2, it failed to run:

xchm: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk2_xrc-2.6.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I saw the following instruction after the installation of wxGTK:

The installation of wxWidgets is finished. On certain
platforms (e.g. Linux) you'll now have to run ldconfig
if you installed a shared library and also modify the
LD_LIBRARY_PATH (or equivalent) environment variable.

I ran the "/sbin/ldconfig" command but I didn't know what it was. Now I wonder if the problem is caused by not changing LD_LIBRARY_PATH. How to change this variable?

Grab kchmviewer...don't waste time with the individual packages.
