antivirus for mail server

Clam AntiVirus is very flexible and works well as a mail server antivirus. You can find it ready as a compiled package for Slackware but I think it would be better if you compiled it from source. You can find the source tarball and documentation at sourceforge.net.

Good Luck

...and a Slackware package, plus SlackBuild script (in case you want to compile yourself), at http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/clamav/

I think that clamav is the only free antivirus program that can be legally used on a server.
AVG has restrictions that prohibit this usage.

I know you said free anti-virus but I installed etrust from CA and it works pretty good. That's if you don't mind to pay for it and I am not sure what the system requirments in terms of hardware is.

But if you have to go with a free anti-virus then I would certainly go with clamAV.

This is a silly question, but how to enable mail scanning in ClamAV?

You can integrate easily amavisd-new with postfix to call the services of clamav for virus scanning.

Postfix has howtos for this and it's just a matter of reading and following amavisd-new "INSTALL" text file upon unpacking the source tar ball.

I both use SpamAssassin and ClamAV with Amavisd-new and just recently, added postgrey that further helps spam and virus control.
