Another stupid graphics question
Im using slack-10.1.
I want to change the login background, you know the picture behind the splashscreen as x starts up? So, im doing the normal thing by going to Control Center> System Administration> Login Manager > Background tab and changing my picture to whatever it is I want, right? But the picture never comes up! If I set it to a gradient, I never see a gradient either! So is there a secret Slackware magical thingy that I need to do to get this working? Thanks guys |
Are you on runlevel 4 right? Are you using KDM, GDM or XDM?
As far as I remember GDM is run by default, that's gnome's graphical login manager, so search for the configuration tool for it. It won't be on KDE's control center. |
I suppose Im using KDM, I mean Im running KDE as my desktop and Im using KDE's control panel to try and get the background to work.
Are you telling me that Im using KDE, but it runs off of gnome somehow? Just for the hell of it, I ran gdmsetup and changed the background picture there as well. Im still not seeing a background on my startup screen! |
login screen

It is the login screen tht matters all these matters when ur default reun level is 4 in /etc/inittab # Default runlevel. (Do not set to 0 or 6) id:3:initdefault: (i uses 3 u can change it to 4 so tht u get a nice login screen :) ) if u want to change th elogin screen use the respective login manager u can change th e login manager preference in : /etc/rc.d/rc.4, a script file here u can prefer which one to use as default if u r using gdm, go to gnomelook.org and download nice themes, same applicable to kdm http://gnome-look.org/ |
gotcha! I spent all day working on it. I was running in init 3 by default. I had to change to init 4, change the rc.4 to boot to kde (so i like kde, what can i say?) then add my users shell from /etc/shells.
thanks for the help guys! |
