another cheap laptop -current testbed recommendation

have got -current now running flawlessly on a Dell C840 laptop. This older machine has a 2ghz processor. The screen gives a 1600x1220 patch of real estate to work with. I replaced the bcm4318 wireless card with an INtel2200b/g as the Broadcom was failing i.e., overheating and causing the machine to lock up. I replaced the failing HD with a Samsung IDE 160gig unit that the BIOS picked up up automatically. These laptops can be had for as little as $90CDN in working order on eBuy. My $ into this donated beastie so far is a whole $70CDN. Thanks Pat and crew for hours of good clean fun.

Have one of these as well. I had to play around with things to get suspend/hibernate to work with 13.0 but lost my notes during the upgrade to current.

Which driver are you using for Video (nv, nouveau, nvidia), and how did you get suspend/hibernate to work properly?

nouveau for video and suspend works fine, but the machine does not come back up cleanly from hibernate so I guess I should have said "flawlessly with conditions". I haven't really done anything special to configure. I first loaded 13.1, used slackpkg to upgrade everything at the 13.1 level, then upgraded everything to -current. I did have to install xfce4-volumed to get the Fn+vol keys to work but other than that...nada

Can't use nouveau here. Causes too much heat, can't switch from X to VT, nor log out of X. In X nouveau works pretty good (minus the insane heat generation).

Figured out why my suspend/hibernate wasn't working, forgot you have to disable pcmcia first. Using a Linksys PCMCIA wireless card. This model came an 11b internal card. Hacked together a quick script for pm-utils. Suspend is working 50-60% of the time, and hibernate works 100% with the binary Nvidia driver. Kind of aggravates me. My Dell C600, d830, Compaq e700, and this CR-48 (Chrome-OS) all work 100% out of the box. Oh well, guess you can't have it all
