AMD propriety graphics drivers in S14 rc3

Anyone gotten these to work yet. I have downloaded, and seems to build OK with no build errors, but when used, either run level 4 or from rl3 using startx, the laptop just stalls, and the only way out is using the 'magic keys'. Go to look for the log at /var/log/Xorg.0.log, and there isn't one.

Reboot and get rid of the created xorg.conf, unblacklist the radeon driver, (auto blacklisted by the AMD install program) and I'm back in business with the Radeon driver.

Been an ongoing problem for a while now, so wondering if anyone has a fix.

TIA

No problems at all with Catalyst 12.6 Legacy Beta (HD3200) on -current 32 bit and Catalyst 12.8 (HD6870) on -current 64 bit.

Did you run #aticonfig --initial after installing fglrx?

Yep, although the installation procedure creates an xorg.conf file anyway.

Which driver version are you using? 32 or 64 bit?

Yes, but it doesn't address the problem, being steered toward utilising the Radeon driver rather than the AMD fglrx one. But thanks anyway.

64 bit. Used to work about 3 or 4 iterations ago on current. So round about April this year when it started to not work. Seemed to coincide with xorg-server-1.12.1-x86_64-1 being introduced and hasn't worked since.

I have been running since with the Radeon driver and was hoping it would have been sorted out by now and I suppose I am a little disappointed that it hasn't.

You are right, the older driver (I assume 12.4) doesn't work with Xserver 1.12 and newer drivers that do work with that version don't support your video-card. But there is a newer driver for those older cards here: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...yproducts.aspx
It is considered Beta, but works fine with my HD3200 under -current (14 RC3) 32 Bit.
For some unknown reason AMD thinks it is a good idea to punish beta testers with an ugly watermark, but this can be avoided by copying a valid signature into /etc/ati
Code:
echo -n d164ca3e4bda6f7683e01cdf18df15c3:e94afc067af75f4fb2d12eeb79f225fae351fa0608f72e22cac029ed28ed21f7:b45dfe5f2db95f40b4817ae82db921a5b356ae0f79bf0a14b4d97aed2aea73a2b457ff0f2dbb5f40b3d87ae82aba27f1b205a90e79e30a12b1d879bb2aee73f4 > /etc/ati/signature

That's the driver I am trying to use. Wasn't aware of the signature issue, so will try that and report back.

Tried that, still the same. But I did manage to capture a log file this time which is below. Does it show anything obvious to your trained eye?
