Amarok 2.5.0 in -current

What used to be my music player of choice is getting on my last nerve. There is a know bug in 2.5.0 and the phonon backend gstreamer, so if you are using this, change to mplayer or there will likely be no sound.

My current issue tho is, it won't advance tracks. I make a playlist, I hit play, and it plays one track only and stops.

Anyone hit this / have a fix?

Incidentally, I did patch my 2.5.0 so that the context toolbar works again. As I understand, the source distributed to packagers via official channels has the fix but the source available on the Amarok website is the original 2.5.0 release.

I had that issue with the latest phonon-gstreamer, not sure if you refer to that as well or to phonon-mplayer.
Basically phonon-gstreamer is the only still developed and supported phonon backend available in Slackware core. Both mplayer and xine are stalled and should no longer be used.
That the gstreamer backend does not advance tracks is a bug in 4.6.0, it works fine in 4.5.x. So my solution was to not upgrade. Unfortunately you can't just recompile the old version
atop the new kde because the api changed and it no longer compiles, but using an already compiled version works (you can still get it from alienBOB's ktown repo of kde 4.7.4).
I suppose this will also be fixed in 4.6.1.

The alternative is to install phonon-vlc, which you have to compile from source as well because alienBOB's package is out of date.

I tried all the backends and only gstreamer worked for me, the others having the 'no advance' problem or simply not producing any sound at all. You might want to try Amarok with either a fresh user account or after backing up and removing your ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok and ~/.kde/share/config/amarok* to see if it is an issue with legacy configuration files.

Ok, I have this working now. Backend gstreamer works as bosth said.

I had to kill my .gstreamer-10 all the amarok files and restart. I ended up killing .xine and .mplayer just to be sure.

Just posting this up for anyone else who may hit this issue.

Final part to this, install from slackbuilds.org gst-ugly, gst-ffmpeg and gst-bad so mp3 and m4a can be played.
