Amarok 1.4.2+ collection scan aborts on a UTF8 system?

Is anyone else having problems with Amarok's (1.4.2+) collection scan failing on a UTF8 system? I have my system setup with LANG=en_US.UTF8, and the collection scan aborts everytime with the error message:
Code:
Sorry, the collection Scan was aborted, since too many problems were encountered.
Advice: A common source for this problem is a broken 'TagLib' package on your computer. Replacing this package may help fixing the issue.
 The Following files caused problems:
followed by a list of files. I have tried taking out those files to no avail, the collection scan gives me errors about more files. I have seen other people with this problem when using samba, but not sure about a local filesystem. This error occurs in self-compiled 1.4.2, self-compiled 1.4.3, Pat's 1.4.3, and KDE.org contrib's 1.4.3, no problems on 1.4.1.

It mentions the taglib package in the error - what version are you running? I have taglib-1.4-i486-2 installed here with amarok-1.4.3-i486-4.

Taglib is taglib-1.4-i486-2, and my Amarok is currently a self compiled 1.4.1 because anything higher would give me collection errors, but I've tried amarok-1.4.3-i486-4 before and it also gave the error message. The problem only occurs when I have the LANG set as *.UTF8.
...Maybe I should just file a bug report and wait for 1.4.4

EDIT: as I was about to file a bug report I took a look around the database and decided to recompile my taglib, and it worked. Pat's taglib has problems, I guess.
