Alternating between 2 web browsers as the same user = home dir gets messed?
 

Kernel 2.6.21.5, Slackware 12.0

Hi:
I, user john, with home dir /home/john_dir, login as john, always running the xfce4 desktop, and run Mozilla Firefox. Some other time, I again login as john and run the Seamonkey web browser. Or, maybe, I, john, am running the two browsers at the same time.

As a result, what happens with directory /home/john_dir ? If I am a person who likes to do some settings not in the GUI but by editing the files user's home dir directly (those begining with a period), won't I find this dir to be a real mess?

And what is the way out? Any suggestion would be welcome. Thanks for reading.

I don't see where this would be a problem.

I have used both Seamonkey and Firefox simultaneously.

I have even used both chromium and chrome (with each synced to a different gmail account) and experienced no problems.

No, it won't cause any issues. Firefox stores all it'scache and data in .mozilla/firefox and seamonkey in .mozilla/seamonkey

Good to know that. However, talking about file associations with frankbell, an LQ member, I remember him saying this.

I remark the phrase Manipulating file associations under one [desktop environment] has always carried through to the others when I've changed environments.

stf92, I have no clue about file associations switching between DE's. I tend to stay away from those. As for using multiple browsers, you shouldn't have any worries. Any file associations they have are stored in their own space and format and won't carry over.

Well then, that settles matters. Incidentally, I had a distaste for file associations but, in searching in the web, I have now to skim through many files and find it convenient to make some assocs. Thanks for your posts.
