Hello ...

Just a question, you run it on root?

alsamixer -> normal user

alsactl store -> root

I run them both as root and it seems to work just fine.

Are you using any sort of external mixer program? Some of them may override the initial settings provided when /etc/rc.d/rc.alsa runs. For instance, KDE's KMix has an option to store your user preferences. When KMix starts up it can use whatever levels were selected using it's UI, rather than what is stored in /var/lib/alsa/asound.state.

I believe I had a similar problem. Try this: First of all, delete existing /etc/asound.state. After that run alsamixer as user and save it as root with alsactl store. Then copy /var/lib/alsa/asound.state to /etc. It helped me so give it a shot. GL :)
