Alsamixer Configuration: Unmute SPDIF as Default?

I am running Slackware 13.37 on an Asus EEEBox B202 nettop machine (Intel Atom N270 chip). After some initial configuration the install recognizes and utilizes the hardware fine including the SPDIF digital out, however the SPDIF digital output which is in fact my default (and only) audio output is muted by default. I do know how to go into alsamixer and unmute it manually each time but it is a pain since I have to do this each time I reboot the machine. BTW I am usually running this machine from the CLI.

Is there a way to configure alsmixer to unmute the SPDIF digital output by default and to use it as the default sound output?

Is there a config file that has to be modified or else any way to change it's default behavior?

Thanks.

As root do:

alsactl store

It saves what you have setup with alsamixer
