i'm trying to get my sound working right now, and i've been trying to run alsaconf... whenever i run it all it says is "no supported pnp of pci car found"

when i run alsamixer i get all the bars and such to control volume, and i know i compiled alsa and my oarticular drivers into my kernel

Recompile your kernel with soundcore support enabled, but no support for alsa or oss. Then compile alsa-driver, alsa-lib and alsa-utils according to the instructions for you soundcard at http://www.alsa-project.org/

The ftp links still work although you'll probably need to be able to see the page for your soundcard so you know what options to pass to configure.
