ALSA Volume Settings not saving
I recently updated my system to Slack-Current with KDE 3.4.0 and it is running great.....however I do have one issue. Whenever I exit a KDE session and log back in all of my volume settings are lost. My KDE is setup to save session on exit, but all of my volume settings are lost. What am I doing wrong?
On a slightly related note: What applet do I use to have a simple volume control (like in Windows) on the KPanel?? The only applet that I have found is one that shows ALL of the individual alsa volumes. |
I remember when I used KDE I had a problem with the volume settings because I was saving them with alsactl store, which is the way you should save them. But I found that KDE stores it's own volume settings, this behaviour could be changed in the "control center" (i don't remember the name of the place where you change most KDE settings).

Use kmix to set your volumes. In the kmix setup panel, make sure load volumes on start. kmix will also provide a volume control in the system tray.
Aumix also works as well. Set your volumes and then select file--> save |

Link Quality: 100% Signal Strength: 3% Noise Level: 76% ....these levels are with the laptop 6 feet away from the Linksys router. The signal strength to Noise level ratio scares me. |
If your wireless connection working, I wouldn't worry too much about those readings. Odds are, the tools are simply mis-configured. Just be happy your connection works. :)
