alsa modules and 2.6.0

i compiled the new stable release of the 2.6.0 kernel.

i chose to compile alsa into the kernel (not as modules)

now when i boot up, it finds my sound card. but all the applications that uses sound cant find the alsa mixer.

the only app that found anything was kmix.
it says can't find alsa mixer, a few times.
but it let me choose my sound card.

oh sorry....
kmix finds my card only when i also compile into the kernel the dummy device module.
but....
when i change options on kmix it does affect my card.
because when i change the line in volume, i hear the line in (i have my tv connected to the line in of my card, so i hear the tv)
but still... every program says it can't find an alsa mixer (That includes amixer, and xmms)

when i don't compile the dummy device support, then even kmix doesn't work
