AlienWare NVIDIA GTX680M 3D Stereoscopic screen - boot hangs for 60 seconds

Hi,

I have a great laptop - Alienware M17X with GTX680M (games on this laptop are awesome) but I don't use Windows - I use linux. I have everything working right now but when I boot it takes about 2 minutes because boot process hangs in 3.5 second for 60 seconds. It's always the same moment and the same amount of time, so it's some loop going untill timeout and it's set to 60 seconds I think.
Do you know how can I overcome this slow boot. I would like to disable some USB device or sth like this to speed up boot process.

Check my dmesg, messages, etc.:

I suspect that 'lspci' on your Alienware M17X will show:
Quote:

0d:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)
and that this is causing the stall during boot.

That device needs additional work to be properly installed in Slackware. e.g.

OK- No Broadcom device present.
Have you tried booting using the nomsi kernel boot parameter?

kingbeowulf 05-30-2013 07:49 PM

Actually, you might try blacklisting 'hda-intel' to see if the hang goes away. Also, dmesg is a bit non-sequestial, so see if its trying to load 'intel' or 'intelhd' (check your BIOS and lsmod). You also have a kernel segfault. Also, since you are fiddling with 3.9.4, some of us don't have that kind of time and it wold help use to troubleshoot if you ran the stock kernel.

Also, what version of Nvidia driver? NVDIA*.sh or from SBo?

firedrake 05-31-2013 07:41 AM

Thanks kingbeowulf - your post helped me to figure it out - there was a problem with snd-hda-intel and scanning ports or sth like this. I had snd-hda-intel compiled into my kernel so when I changed this to (M)odule it helped me to overcome this problem.

Sometimes it's not good to put everything into your Kernel.

Now if someone could help me with the second laptop I would be in debt to him.
