AlienBob KDE 5 on 14.2
I was thinking that since 14.2 is pretty much -current at the moment AlienBOB's KDE5 should work fine (hoping it doesn't have some of the old KDE 4 issues).
I followed http://taper.alienbase.nl/mirrors/al...testing/README but get Code:
kstartupconfig5 does not exist or fails. The er This is under virtualbox if it makes any difference. |
I don't think it's actually any different right now, but he does have a Plasma 5 repository dedicated to 14.2:
http://taper.alienbase.nl/mirrors/al...e/14.2/latest/ I am using that right now without any problems, so if it is, in fact, the same as the /current/testing branch at the moment, I'm not sure what the problem might be. For future reference, this post might be informational: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...4/#post5571924 |
kstartupconfig5 is part of 'plasma-workspace-5.7.0' package, try install or reinstall

turns out to be a pebcak error, somehow I installed x86 and not x64 for my test :(
As soon as I pair the right kde with the right base slackware it works fine :) |
getting AlienBob KDE5 to work for me.
These steps worked for me in getting AlienBob KDE5 going on my machine -
1. A clean install of Slackware 64 14.2 on a clean new formatted partition. 2. Some way to boot to that partition. Lilo is one way to do that. 3. Upgrade to -current with slackpkg. 4. Read AlienBob's README for his Ktown stuff. 5. Follow the instructions therein step by step. I've done this several times with the various iterations of KDE5. It works if ya RTFM. AlienBob's KDE5 is quite stable and useful now. Some of the fancy baubles of KDE4 are still not quite up and going but KDE5 is quite functional now and I would dare say it is better than KDE4. |
