Alien Bob's libreoffice - spellchecking dosen't work
I use Slackware 14.1 multilib with latest Alien's packages:
Code:
ls /var/log/packages/libreoffice-*
/var/log/packages/libreoffice-4.3.4-x86_64-1alien
/var/log/packages/libreoffice-dict-pl-4.3.4-x86_64-1alien
/var/log/packages/libreoffice-l10n-pl-4.3.4-x86_64-1alien
/var/log/packages/libreoffice-mozplugin-4.3.4-x86_64-1alien
I set my locale and user interface to Polish, but spellchecking dosen't work.
In Tools/Options/Language Settings/Writing Aids/Available language modules I don't see any language.
I tried deleting .config/libreoffice but no change.
I haven't it either there, but my spellchecker works. Check if you have "polish" in Tools->Language->For all text. If you have, selecting it there should be enough for spellchecker to work.
Check if you have /usr/lib(64)/libreoffice/share/uno_packages/cache/uno_packages/some_tmp_dir/dict-pl.oxt. I found my libreoffice use this dictionary. However deleting this dir, make my libreoffice use dictionary from Alien Bob package. So spellchecker still working.
Well, here are my notes for LibreOffice dictionary use.
They are old and may no longer apply though.

USING DICTIONARIES
To use the other dictionaries like en_GB.dic:
Format>Character>Language
or F7 Spell Checker
or Tools>Options>Language Settings>Languages>Locale Setting
Then they will show in menus for that document.
If you change it via Locale Setting the selection
will stick between session and be the 'default'
dictionary.
If you add 'User Defined', aka personal, dictionaries
with the same name as a global one, they will show
in the 'Add Word' menu if that language is selected.
If 'Default English USA' is selected added words go to
standard.dic. This is configurable in the 'Edit' dialog.

@Labinnah I have this dir, I found it was created by old install script. Actually I've been using upgradepkg for long time. Now I removepkg and then installpkg libreoffice and this dir is empty, but still spellchecking dosen't work
@Xsane I set Polish locale everywhere, but no success
Maybe try the original interface in USA English (i.e. try without the l10n package). I have had trouble to get the spell-checker to work when setting the l10n to the GB version instead of the common USA English. I no longer bother setting the interface to my local language... It's a bit weird but this spell-checking seems a common problem: http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/questi...ot-working-40/

I do not know how common the problem is, but I have never had trouble using British English with either LibreOffice or OpenOffice. It is possible that some languages are not be as well supported as English, but I have no idea if that is actually the case. With English locales, it is a matter of installing the correct dictionary. If it does not work with any dictionaries, my guess would be a problem with either configuration or a missing component, either not installed by the user or a fault in the distribution's package.
With Polish? No idea of the quality of Polish language packages.

Do you guys have aspell installed?
Try aspell, hunspell and whatever else there is, until you (hopefully) find one that works. System locale settings do not affect Libre/OpenOffice. They only care about which locales are set in that application's settings. If you cannot get LibreOffice to work, try OpenOffice.
I have been baffled by this for some time myself, for Greek spelling, until I made it work, but YMMV. My assumption has been that the included language packs had incorporated any preexisting dictionaries and thesauri, and that the problem therefore was not related with installing an .oxt file. After trying several suggestions without success, I decided to install the dictionary I always installed in the past, and lo and behold it worked! I didn't research it any further, so I can't offer any answer as to why it behaves like this, but empirically it does :-)
