I had to change my mouse from /dev/mouse to /dev/psaux to get it to work.

I can still use my mouse under /dev/mouse. It is just my sound that is more pressing at the moment. Why is my soundcard detected and alsamixer levels are set, yet there is no sound, is beyond me right now.

alsa modules doesn't work well with mixed match kernel, I had recompiled my linux kernel first, then recompiled my alsa-lib and alsa-driver modules version 1.0.12; and slackware 11 comes with only 1.0.11.

I did a complete upgrade from 10.2; not a fresh installation.

Sorry, I should have mentioned this on the first post, but this was fresh installation of 11.0, and so the fact that xmms plays sound, even though there is no sound actually coming from the speakers is beyond me, I have tried everything possible.
