Hi,

This is what I get on Acer Aspire 5100 , graphics by ATI Radeon 1100 xpress with Slackware 12 and kernel 2.6.21.5-smp:

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep EE
(EE) AIGLX error: dlsym for __driCreateNewScreen_20050727 failed (/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/fglrx_dri.so: undefined symbol: __driCreateNewScreen_20050727)
(EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering

xvinfo
X-Video Extension version 2.2
screen #0
no adaptors present

fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon Xpress Series
OpenGL version string: 2.0.6747 (8.40.4)

Yes I know there are already similar threads with this kind of problems and I've read them but ...

I'm try to read as much as possible because my status of hard novice
Also I noticed that mplayer play movies only with switch -vo x11 and my intuition says that's result from previuos problems. Am I right?

It's an ATI proprietary driver error / bug. You can do nothing.

Which series of ATI does the 1100 Xpress come from? rv4xx? It might not be hard for the dri/r300 people to get it to work, because I have my Xpress 200M working in 3d (didn't test AIGLX, but might as well try)

It's an r500 I believe. Join the club. ATI's binary driver really sucks. They don't seem to be interested in keeping up with modular X. Anyone with an r500/600 card (X1xxx) will want to look into the new Open Source Avivo driver. It's still very new, but give it another year and it'll out-shine ATI's driver, I can all but guarantee. I sold my MBP because of the X1600 in it. Indeed, Apple dropped ATI and is now using Nvidia for various reasons. They better get their act together is all I have to say...
