After X11 Patch ATI No Longer Functioning

I upgraded to the X11 patch released a day or two ago and have pretty much lost direct rendering and other nice features from previously installing ATI drivers.

Sigh.

I'm running Slackware 11.0, kernel 2.6.18. I assume I have to rebuild the kernel (or something) but really haven't a clue where to start again. Sorry to seem stupid but I had a stroke a month or so ago and I'm still a little fuzzy about where and how -- if somebody could give me a hint where to start, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks.

I had a slight problem with the nvidia driver as well. Glx wasn't loading. After reinstalling the nvidia driver it's fine.

try running 'aticonfig' again
if that doesn't work, try re-installing the ATI driver.
cwwilson721 has an excellent tutorial here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=402003

with good info by Old_Fogie as well

Thank you for the hints.

I went off to the AMD ATI Drivers and Software site (http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html) and got the latest version of their Automatic Installer packages (turn out I had version 8.29.6 and the new version is 8.34.8; just seemed like a good idea to use the latest and greatest). It's amazing what will come flooding back with just the smallest hint...

Anyway, uninstalled the 8.29.6 drivers (per instructions), installed 8.34.8 drivers (per instructions), all is well with the world. GoogleEarth starts smoothly, videos play at the proper speed, fgl_glxgears spins like a mad rabbit.

Thanks to all.
