After installing NVIDIA driver, resolution limited to 1024x768

I've searched for people with similar experiences but no luck so far. I had my Slackware 10.0 system setup with my NVIDIA 5200 FX graphics card w/o the NVIDIA driver installed, and it could run in 1280x1024. Now that the driver is installed, it won't go past 1024x768.

I installed the driver in accordance with the documentation provided by NVIDIA. I'm sure my horizontal sync and vertical refresh rates are correct; I'm sure I have "1280x1024" entered in the appropriate place in my xorg.conf, I'm sure it says Driver "nvidia" and Load "glx" in the graphics card section of my xorg.conf; and I'm sure Load "dri" and Load "GLcore" have been removed from xorg.conf.

The GL screensavers work really nicely and I see the NVIDIA splash screen when starting X so I know it installed. The only thing I can think it could be is that in the install it told me a certain module was being loaded in my kernel that could conflict with the NVIDIA driver. I forgot what exactly it was but I could go back and find out somehow if this is the only suspicious thing.

It was probably agpgart and that's more than likely not your problem but go ahead and comment it out of /etc/rc.d/rc.modules . Sorry if the folder direction is wrong but I'm on my windows partition.

i don't want to hi-jack the thread but I do have similar problem.

I am running redhat 9 in my Dell Inspiron 8200 notbook which has an nVidia GeForce 4 440 Go video card. After installing the appropriate driver from nvidia, my resolution is limited to 800x600. whenever i try to change the display settings, I receive this notification:

Quote:

Display settings changed

You need to log out and restart the X server for the changes to take effect.
Configuration was written to /etc/X11/XF86Config, original configuration saved as /etc/X11/XF86Config.backup.
but when i try to logout and login again, I even restarted the system, it is still going back to 800x600 resolution,

Need help. Thanks.
