Advice for disabling some of the services from /etc/rc.d

Have installed slack 10 and now am trying to disable some of the services that i don't use in order to make my box more secure. I use my box for normal desktop work, using a dial-up modem to connect to internet.
these are the services that i have enabled

536ep-boot*
rc.4*
rc.6*
rc.K*
rc.M*
rc.S*
rc.acpid*
rc.alsa*
rc.font*
rc.font.new*
rc.gpm-sample*
rc.inet1*
rc.inet2*
rc.inetd*
rc.keymap*
rc.local*
rc.modules*
rc.serial*
rc.syslog*
rc.sysvinit*
rc.udev*

and these are the services that i have disabled
rc.atalk
rc.bind
rc.cups
rc.dnsmasq
rc.hotplug
rc.httpd
rc.inet1.conf
rc.ip_forward
rc.lprng
rc.mysqld
rc.nfsd
rc.pcmcia
rc.portmap
rc.samba
rc.sendmail
rc.sshd
rc.wireless
rc.wireless.conf
rc.yp

I am just wandering whether my choice has been right in deciding what to disable. i wasn't very sure about rc.udev. Do i need that service? Is there any other thing that i need to disable or any other editing that i need to do to any of the files that i have enabled.
thanks

If you have a 2.6 kernel, consider enable rc.udev and rc.hotplug

You can disable other services by editing /etc/inetd.conf and add a "#" before the service lines like time, ftp, finger, pop3 etc...

thanks for your reply. Am using kernel 2.4.26 at the moment so i am not using hotplug and following your advice will disable rc.udev.

I will disable the one that you mention from etc/inetd.conf but do i do that for all the services that are included in that file (e.g. comsat, auth) or do i still need some of those services. If yes which ones?

thanks

You can get many help when looking at the 6th field for each line in /etc/inetd.conf to see what program (,deamon,...) is started by the service and then read its man page.
