ADSL or LAN?

When you say you have ADSL connected to a LAN, does that mean you connect to a router which connects to a DSL modem? If so, the router should give you an IP address and you shouldn't be using the DSL tools at all.

DHCP is started automatically during your boot sequence, and should give you an IP address. Log in as root and type:

ifconfig

to see if eth0 is up and has an IP address. If so, you're good to go.

If you are connected to a DSL-Router, itīs like troutwaxer said, you should not need to connect using adsl-start.

You only need to use the adsl tools ( i guess you are using the rppppoe ) if your machine is connected directly with the ADSL-Modem.
If so, and you canīt connect with adsl-start, try adsl-setup to reconfigure your connection settings.
