adobe flash slow in current

Hi all,

I'm running slackware current. I just updated my system and now the flash player plug-in (9.0.115.0) in firefox is very slow: 1 frame every 1 or 2 seconds. It was running flawlessly with the current version of last week...

Any idea ?

Have you downgraded back the working version to confirm it is the newer plugin the issue or maybe the cause is from another update?

Seems to work ok here on -current. Just watched a few youtube videos with firefox and flash plugin and didn't notice any issues. What sites are giving you problems?

I have the same problem (also running up-to-date current). I think it started with upgrading to kernel-2.6.24.4. Maybe it's a combination of kernel/videocard/driver? I have an old Nvidia videocard (GeForce2 MX400) and use the xf86-video-nv-2.1.8 driver. Of course I could try downgrading the kernel to make sure. I think I'll try that.

I think you're right. I tried to downgrade firefox, tried to change version of the flash plugin, without succes. I suspect a kernel or xorg issue too.
I use a old videocard Radeon 7000 with the xorg radeon driver. Tell me please if downgrading your kernel works. Maybe I should try it too.

I found it: pixman-0.10.0 is the culprit. Downgrading to 0.9.6 fixes the flash problem (for me).

Really ? I just tried pixman-0.9.6: doesn't work. Do you change another thing ?

No, I didn't change anything else. Did you restart the X-server?

Well, I knew the Flash player problem started after the March 28/29 update. So it had to be one of those packages. I reverted back to the previous kernel, but that didn't help. So I had another look at the changelog for a package that could have anything to do with Flash. I guessed pixman, because I knew it is part of xorg.

Must just be certain video cards. I have:
Code:
mingdao@silas:~$ uname -a
Linux silas 2.6.24.4-noide #2 PREEMPT Sun Apr 6 15:03:57 CST 2008 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
Fri Apr 4 22:08:08 CDT 2008 -current, Flash Player 9.0.115.0,
Firefox 2.0.0.13, pixman-0.10.0-i486-1, GeForce 7300 GT,
2.1.2 NVIDIA 171.06 driver and no problems. Also:
Code:
mingdao@silas:~$ glxgears
75824 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15164.630 FPS
73244 frames in 5.0 seconds = 14648.727 FPS
74843 frames in 5.0 seconds = 14968.581 FPS
75915 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15182.867 FPS

Excellent! Now I've got flash working right again. Anyway am also using slackware-current. My graphics card is a Radeon 7200. Changing pixman to version 0.9.6 made the difference.
