Adding commands to the &PATH????

I am not sure this is even what I am looking for, but I think $PATH is where your command links are stored? I want to add a command so that I do not have to type the full path to the command I am searching for. Like the "ls" command for example. Is $PATH where this is stored and how do I add my the commands I want?

I understand the information is available and I have searched, but with my limited knowledge of linux I am having a hard time searching for the information so any help, even if its just pointing me in the right direction to seach for it myself would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much for the link. It didn't really make much sense but it I was able to look into Environmental Variables and find exactly what I needed to know. Thank you again.

Is good to learn and mess with system variables, but something that I like doing is copying the program executable to a location already in the $PATH variable like "/usr/local/bin".

Hi,

Welcome to Slackware!

You can look at 'SlackwareŽ Essentials' and 'SlackwareŽ Basics' which are good books to reference for problems or solutions to other problems.

These links and others are available from 'Slackware-Links'. More than just SlackwareŽ links!
