Adding a nic

How can I modify the kernel to support my nic? It is a 3com 3c920. When I type ifconfig eth0 (and eth1 for that matter) it produces "error getching interface information: Device not found". I have run netconfig.

try "modprobe 3c59x", then do "ifconfig eth0..."

that will probably help you.

Thank-you!
Your suggestion worked! I am online with slackware!! NICE!!!! I am estatic! Will linux permenantly recognise my nic, or do I have to edit re.inet1 (I would put a question mark at the end of that sentence, but it looks like , I have to adjust my keyboard settings.)

For those who are having trouble configuring their network, this is what I have done:
1) run netconfig (your computers hostname can be anything by the way - I recomend darkstar)
2) contacted my internet service provider to obtain their nameserver addresses, which I added to resolve.conf
3) finally, used the modprobe command (thanks e1000)

first, I would try rebooting and seeing if your PC recognizes it again, if that doesnt work, then add it to your rc.inet1, or rc.modules, or rc.local, its really a matter of prefrence.

also, youll need a firewall, I use the one here: http://projectfiles.com/firewall/, its easy to configure, although its a little on the simple side, just try searching these forums on "firewall" and you will find alot.
