Adaptec 19160, failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k scsi_hostadapter, errno = 2
Hi All
I have installed slackware 10.1, I have 2 ide hard disks, and 1 scsi connected to a 19160 adaptec controller. I installed the adaptec.s kernel however it does not seem to be able to find the scsi drive. in the syslog log i find the following error, failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k scsi_hostadapter, errno = 2 the drive does work as suse picked it up and installed it straight away Is there a way to fix this? Unfortunatly I moved my 39160 to a different box.. but if i remember you need the aic7xxx kernel module for that card. make sure it is loaded and then check if the disk is there.

Ok, I uncommented the aic7xxx in rc.modules as well as scsi_mod, scsi_syms, sd_mod, sg, sr_mod and st, as well as commenting out ide-scsi
I still get "failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k scsi_hostadapter, errno = 2" however i know get the following mesg as well, which hopefully means i've made some progress. I would guess scsi_mod, scsi_syms and sr_mod would be the ones missing (this is going by what you stated and the output of both dmesg and lsmod) and i do not think you actually need either of them, but i'll look a bit later today. sg would be the scsi generic stuffs and you prolly do not need it. st would be for scsi tape drives (pretty sure you wont need this one either) The aic7xxx mod is loading, tho i would expect it to list out the attached devices, but like i said it has been a while. after the module aic7xx module is loaded browse around /proc/scsi to see if you can see the device id you assinged the drive in there if so you should be able to fdisk /dev/sda and be good to mount. If it is not in there the I would go back the the scsi card (hit alt-a at boot to get into the scsi bios) and make sure the controller sees the drive and everything is setup as it should be. |

Its working now, I removed the scsi card rebooted and the reinstalled the card and seems to be working now. Thanks for all the help irpstrcr Barry |
