Acrobat5.06 as a Mozilla Helper App

Just downloaded Acrobat-506 (Reader) and it works fine on its own for
reading pdf's, but I cannot make it work with Mozilla as a Helper App.

The 'acroread' help file says the plugin (nppdf.so) will only work with
Netscape 4.x versions; Mozilla is the .0.9.1 version which accompanies
the Gnome setup from Slackware 8.0 (essentially Netscape 5.0) so I
cannot use the plugin.

Setting up 'acroread' as a helper app in Mozilla does not call up the
application when clicking on a url to a pdf file in the browser. Only the
download window appears.

I have even tried the RedHat 'LANG=C' script to see if that would work
but I really don't have the 'Unicode' problem.

Anyone have a fix or solution? TIA

You're running Slackware-8.0?

Do you need to load the entire path to acroread? For example, on this box it's /usr/local/Adobe/Acrobat7.0/bin/acroread

Using Slackware-current, Firefox 1.5, and AdbeRdr701_linux_enu.tar.gz works fine here.
