acpid, acpi_handler.sh

Whenever we change the actions in /etc/acpi/default, it's always the file acpi_handler.sh that will be run on ACPI events. It's not a real problem in the sense that we can just edit the acpi_handler.sh file but the manpage and the comments in /etc/acpi/default are in contradiction. Is it hardcoded in acpid or something wrong in my installation ?

I believe you have to add scripts in /etc/acpi/events
example taken from /usr/doc/acpid-1.0.4/samples/panasonic:
script name: /etc/acpi/events/hotkey
Code:
# /etc/acpi/events/hotkey
# This script handles hotkey events on Panasonic notebooks

event=HKEY.*
action=/etc/acpi/hotkey.pl %e
Of course for this script, you have to copy /usr/doc/acpid-1.0.4/samples/panasonic/hotkey.pl in /etc/acpi/

With my laptop the line in /etc/acpi/events/default file :

event=button power.*

does not work properly. It's always the "/etc/acpi/acpi_handler.sh %e" action which is taken.

To have the correct behavior, we have to changed the line with this :

event=button[ /]power.*

I am not sure if it's related to my laptop or a general issue but it works for me !

The other events that I use (and can be useful for you) are :
- event=button[ /]lid
- event=ac_adapter.*
- event=battery.*

The Slackware setup using the acpi interface is best handled by editing /etc/acpi/acpi_handler.sh.

The newer approach is to use pm-utils using the /sys interface.
See the README files in /usr/doc/pm-utils-1.2.3 for further information.
