ACPI question

I dual boot win2k and slack 10.ACPI and APM are enabled in the bios for win2k but I am just using the slackware default kernel without acpi support. Is this a potential problem if I leave "acpi aware os" ENABLED in the BIOS while running non acpi slackware?

Athlon xp 2400+ desktop

You should install acpid package and then enable acpi by giving execute permissions to /etc/rc.d/rc.acpid.
An alternative method is you re-install slack using bareacpi.i as default kernel (not very confortable).
Hope this helps

you could just install the bareacpi.i kernel or recompile your kernel with acpi installed.

just copy the bareacpi.i kernel from the cd to your /boot dir and add a section in lilo.conf for it rerun lilo and its installed.

but no leaving that bios option shouldnt affect anything ... youll get better support (* support = more features *) from acpid then you will from apmd ... you have to setup acpid events and actions though, well at least in 9.1, havent used 10.0 yet.
