ACPI & auto shutdown, suspend


Does anyone know how I can get ACPI to shutdown/suspend my computer after X minutes? On battery, it will just run until it has no juice left and then die, and that's not healthy for my filesystems or hardware. With ACPI in the kernel, Linux no longer respects my BIOS power management settings, which I used with Slack 9.0. How can I get ACPI to work for me?

Note: In Slackware Linux (9+) ACPI is the preferred mode of power management as the technology has improved enough to phase out APM.
