A serious bug in Slackware 10.2.0

I've just noticed that some applications crash with segmentation fault error.
After some digging, I found that a test program from bug report

bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=154641

reproduces the reported problem.

It is quite strange, as the bug was fixed by redhat quite long ago.
Hope it will be fixed soon in Slackware, too.

I've compiled a few things under Slack 10.2, none of which seem to have had any problems. What problems is this supposed to cause?

Well, the proof of concept program certainly does seg fault, but I have never experienced any problems running Slackware 10.2 or compiling software for it.

Re:

Our customers complain that our product doesn't work properly on Slackware 10.2.0.
The product is Excelsior JET, it heavily uses shared libraries loading/unloading mechanism.

Anyway, that is an annoying bug in glibc and should be fixed, of course.

Errr. Why is this a Slackware problem. Shouldn't that be an e-mail to the glibc maintainers, asking them to fix it.

Pat prides himself on not going in and patching other peoples problems. That's one of the reasons that Slack is so stable.

Cheers,
Eddie

That's true but shouldn't he at least be aware of the problem ?

Also in many packages you uses patches from the CVS. Maybe this is corrected in the cvs

Apparently it has been addressed by the glibc devs though not in an official release. Here's a patch from Ulrich Drepper himself:
