A Minimal Installation Question
What I'm interested in is very specific..
I want to have an installation as minimum as possible. But that doesn't mean I want only the base. It has to be a specific kind of minimum. I want kde, a few programs like web browsers, text editor. I also want all of the neccessary libraries and programs which allow me to install and use other programs which I install. But not the extra 'developer tools' since I do not plan on initially using slack for development. At a later time..maybe. After installing 9.1 three times, I have been unable to accomplish this. It always seems that I'm missing something like a library or necessary compliling programs (yes, I did put gc on there.) Or something else. Another thing is that I've heard of 'tagfiles.' Apparently you can get custom ones. The only problem is that I have no idea how to use these tagfiles and where to get the specific tagfiles that I'm looking for (if I even did choose that route.) So does anybody know how to get that kind of an installation up? -Thanks in advance. |
well you could have installed everything first, then uninstall those unwanted packages later .. its just a matter of
#removepkg when I was using slack 8.0, I did'n install kde at all since I use gnome (and enlightenment a lot), the space used was below 1 Gb |
thats a pretty good idea, but too much fuss.
I changed my mind about KDE, by the way. Loaded up fluxbox and it's great;) Also, I'm thinking about going the way of vector, but if possible, I'd like to remain as pure slack as possible. The reason is because I plan on making a specialized live-cd once I get everything up and running. Calgaryflames-Linux |
