A Long Day - Slackware-Current & 2.6.4 Installation Disaster
PPhheww. God damn - that was a close call but I am back - only just ...
I spent the last 15 hours uprading from S9.1 to S-current and kernel 2.6.4. The last 4 hours were amazingly stressful. I was having problems with 2.6.4 with my ethernet card, sound and graphics - the usual stuff. Luckily I had my 2.4.22 as my back-up - well at least that was what I thought until earlier this afternoon when I tried to reboot, and found that I had lost the 2.4.22 kernel image!!I I had no option but to take a chance and recompile 2.6.4. I deleted the 2.4.22. If this didn't work I would have been forced to stay up all night - reinstalling s9.1 and upgrading etc. - going through the full process once again :( After a smooth clean kernel compile, changing LILO, I booted - and the rest is history - here I am!! |
Congrats, it's always satisfying breaking your system and then beating it back into shape, even if it does suck at the time. :D
