Hey there. I am using a laptop with VIA Chrome9 HC IGP chipset. (VN896)
Slackware 13 (32 bit). Using openchrome driver

When I run "glxinfo", I can't find anything saying DIRECT RENDERING yes.
When I tried glxgears, FPS is 170 ~ 190.

I thought there is no direct rendering happening since when I load DRI and DRI2,
glxgears shows a bit slower FPS, 150 ~ 160.

When i disabled dri and dir2, I get 170 ~ 190.

Reading the docs from openchrome:
http://openchrome.org/trac/wiki/Supp...rdware#Chrome9

It says that DRI is not implemented. So does it mean that I have to accept
the fact that there will be no real 3D (hardware) acceleration on my laptop?

no "Direct rendering:yes" in my glxinfo's output , it's the only proof?

i've beening thought mine is working, but there is no "direct rendering:yes" in my glxinfo's output, here is the glxgears output:
2963 frames in 5.003 seconds = 592.245 FPS
3772 frames in 5.000 seconds = 754.400 FPS
3745 frames in 5.001 seconds = 748.850 FPS
3789 frames in 5.000 seconds = 757.800 FPS
3806 frames in 5.001 seconds = 761.048 FPS
2616 frames in 5.000 seconds = 523.200 FPS
2705 frames in 5.026 seconds = 538.201 FPS

glxinfo in Slackware 13.0 was packaged incorrectly (it's actually a link to 'glinfo' which is not as informative, as you can see from your output). There is an updated mesa package with the correct version of glxinfo.

However, the glxinfo output that you provided seems to indicate that your drivers are installed properly. The RENDERER string is correct for someone using the catalyst drivers from AMD.

Hi,

im using ATI x1300 gp on slackware 12.2 driver works great but on slackware 13 is newer version of xorg and my card is putted on legacy.

Is there any guide to downgrade xorg in slackware 13 to version of slackware 12?

I'm not aware of any guide and, frankly, downgrading Xorg is not something I'd recommend. I'd suggest using the open source drivers and, if they just don't work as well as you'd like, perhaps sticking with an older version of Slackware.

Hello, I had tried without success all the tips I was found, so I decide to present my problem here, I wish someone can help me. For me, in 2D all goes fine, but I have troubles with glxgears (it looks with horizontal lines), in googleearth I get "Bus Error", and OpenArena runs really slow. So I think the problem goes about 3D acceleration, I had tried all version of the intel driver in the SW13 DVD without success. Can anybody give some clues???? I didn't had this problems with Slackware 12 nor Slax 6.1.1.

Here the info about my machine and the software.

Anyone here with Radeon 3870x2? AMD says that this board is not yet (!) supported by the catalyst driver, perhaps because of crossfire. I have read somewhere that somebody was able to make this board work with one GPU with 3D acceleration. By now, I am using the radeon open source driver, but I would like to try some hardware acceleration with it.

As I understand it, the open source drivers will support 3D acceleration on one GPU, but you would need to update to a newer version than what comes with Slackware 13.0. You might want to check this thread for how to upgrade the open source drivers:

Perhaps useful for the sticky, I have had to give this link out at least three times a day since I wrote the article and it basically covers all the bases for use of the proprietary nvidia driver on Slackware:

Anyway I'm using chrome9 and finding it hard to tell what the state of chrome9 is right now.

Anyone else using chrome9 graphics card?

The first post in this sticky covers Nvidia very well.

As for Ati, since it changes every 5 min, I am waiting for a bit of stability before I try to update that part of the sticky.

Chrome users, since there are so few, and so horribly supported, I won't even try as of yet

And, finally, Intel users: Well, you got what you got with the xorg built-in drivers. Sorry about that.

Got the same 'card' in my laptop, 12.2 worked fine, 13.0 did give artifacts: in KDE a few, XFCE wasn't usuable. There where alternative drivers in /extra for intel, but none of them where really satisfactory for me in the end. Then I got a hint, the alternative drivers where removed from /extra in -current a few weeks ago. Took the leap to go -current and things where all fine. I suggest you either wait until 13.1, or upgrade your 13.0 to the current 13.1 RC2. As 13.1 is just around the corner,. it's your choice. I'm sticking to -current for now, and ones 13.1 is released, I will change my mirrors to 13.1 (stable).
