A few questions

I just installed Slack 9.1 and then compiled the 2.6.3 kernel and have ran into a few problems..

I get some errors on startup about agpgart not being loaded and ide_scsi not loading. Does anyone know where to remove entries so slack doesn't try loading these modules?

When in menuconfig of the 2.6.3 kernel I chose to load the ALSA stuff and the sound card drivers through modules which was probably a mistake but anyhow, how do I load them?

Thanks..

if they are compiled into the kernel, i think the only way to get rid of them is a recompile w/out those options. i could be wrong, if i am someone please correct me.

from a terminal as root run

alsaconfig
choose the appropriate card and run through the configuration, then

alsamixer
unmute volume and set your default volumes, then

alsactrl store
to store your mixer settings, otherwise you'll be running alsamixer after ebery boot. hope that helps.
good luck.

If you are trying to mobprobe agpart comment it out in the /etc/rc.d/rc.modules file.

I found that the only way I could get agp working is compiling it into the kernel rather than as a module, that's probably more to due to my ignorance of 2.6 than anything else, but hey it works

Alsa aswell, couldn't get working straight out (probably ignorance again) but compiling in just sound support and then compiling the source from the alsa projects independently has seen me ok.
