a few minor annoyances, mozilla, ICEauthority

I've been running slackware 9.1 for a few weeks now and love it except for a few small problems that I run into every so often.

First one is with Mozilla 1.4. Mozilla works fine for a few days and then certain things stop working. For example if I go to google and put in a search topic and hit the "search" button, nothing happens. Weird. Other strange behavior includes clicking on links to downloads and nothing happens. The "M" in the upper right might "spin" once or twice and then nothing. I can fire up Netscape or Epiphany and the same action works just fine, only Mozilla gives me the trouble. Now I've removed/reinstalled the Mozilla package and everything works fine for a few days and then it all starts over again. Another remove/reinstall and it works again, only to break again.

I'm not really sure what to look for in trouble shooting this. Anyone have any ideas? BTW, I installed Mozilla 1.7 once and removed 1.4 but it broke gaim so I switched back to 1.4. 1.7 seemed to behave better but I really didn't have it installed very long. But that's for another thread I think...

Ok problem number 2. If I reboot my slack box and login with my normal user account I get an error message when Gnome starts and it kicks me back to the gdm screen. The error is something like "stderr where are you" sorry I don't have the exact message. Anyway what I do is delete my ~/.ICEauthority file and I can login just fine then. This only seems to happen after a reboot.

Thanks in advance!

stderr: are you root? if so, reinstall the whole system, or delete your users, and restart and reinsert. your problem seems to originate from the lack of root auth. i'll bet. i'm a newb, but i'll bet i'm not far from wrong on this

for the rest: download mozilla-1.7b and install. forget it.
no more problems with bugs from last year! nifty, eh?
hope you enjoy slack. it rocks. i don't know a whole lot yet, but what i do is cool!
-O.
