A feature of the Open tray XFCE plugin in currrent

I have the Open Tray plugin in the XFCE tray. The empty area to the left of its icon reacts to mouse movement with the hint but does not react to mouse click. Whenever Open tray is not the leftmost icon, there is free space between it and the next icon to the left.

Is it a bug in current or XFCE?
