A DHCP request for an usuable interface.

When my Slackware 12.0 boots, shortly after the login, I get this message...

Polling for DHCP server on interface eth0:

No carrier detected on eth0. Reducing DHCP timeout to 10 seconds.

dhcpcd: MAC address = 00:00:f8:05:e8:7c

As you can see, this slows my boot down by at least ten seconds. I would like to remove this. I'm surprised that it even does this because the cable for the adapter is out. Can't it detect this? I'm sure I never had this issue when I was running Slackware 11.0.

Anyway, I realize that I can simply edit /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf and remove the eth0 interface from it, but this would be a pain when I quickly need to use it.

In Slackware 11.0 you would even experience a 30 second timeout when dhcpcd tried to get an IP address but the cable was unplugged. So, it is a definite step forward in 12.0 :-) You can also edit the number '10' in rc.inet1 and make it a smaller number - I've set mine to '3'.
Or use my ifplugd package and enhanced rc.inet1 script, then let ifplugd handle the detection of plugged-in network cable.

I get the same message but the cable is plugged in. I can't seem to get this to work no internet under Slackware. This started with Slackware 11 but I just upgraded to 12 in the hope it would stop doing it. All earlier versions of Slackware worked fine. That port is an onboard Nvidia Ethernet adapter. I do not believe the driver is loading at boot? Any ideas on how to fix it?
