9.0 Kernel update question

Hello all,

if i click on Packages in slackware.com, and search for "Kernel" under 'slack current', i get packages for

kernel-modules-2.4.21-i486-1.1
kernel-ide-2.4.20-i486-5
kernel-ide-2.4.21-i486-1
kernel-modules-2.4.20-i486-7
kernel-modules-2.4.21-i486-1
kernel-headers-2.4.20-i386-5
kernel-headers-2.4.21-i386-1
kernel-source-2.4.21-noarch-1
kernel-source-2.4.20-noarch-5

If i want to update my 2.4.20 kernel to the 2.4.21, can i just download the 2.4.21 modules, ide, and headers packages from there, and just use updatepkg instead of downloading and compiling the source from kernel.org?

Thanks alot =)

If so, do i
updatepkg old new,
or

use upgradepkg old new

If in doubt, check the security advisory on the Slackware site: it contains a very well explained kernel upgrade procedure.

Oh, one very important thing: *Don't forget to update LILO!!* after you update to 2.4.21

I forgot to do that, and it was a pain to get my machine back...

I used swaret to update my 9.0 install to current, including a new kernel-2.4.21, glibc, kde3.1.2, etc. Very smooth, but very time consuming. Better have dsl and lots of time.
