8.1 iso wont boot ?! wtf!!
 

iv been trying to dl and burn over again and again! but it still wont boot wft is the freakin deal!?

Do you have your BIOS setup to boot your CDROM first?

I dont know wat BIOS ? and since when do u have to config BIOS (watever that is?!) i never had to config nothing so it cd would boot?

BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is what loads your operating system, and manyother things (eg. hardware clock). To acces the BIOS, when the computer starts loading you should see something like: Press DEL to enter setup. In the BIOS you can configure the Boot sequence (what boots when the computer loads), change the CD-ROM to be first, and try again.

weird thing it boot on my cousins pentium 4 box and im runing on celeron why is this is there anything i can ?!

The Slack 8.1 ISO boot format has changed prior versions. Some people have reported the same problem you have described. Take a look at Smart Boot Manager. It can be installed to a floppy disk. When booted, it will scan your system for bootable devices. You can select the CDROM drive a menu. They offer both a Linux binary and a DOS binary for download.

is there a way i can take slackware8.1iso cd and use it to update my 8.0 if there is can some one giv me the step by step?

I think there is a file called UPGRADE.TXT in the root directory of the 8.1 CD. That might provide you are asking for.

Just in case you haven't noticed - there are two different 8.1 .isos out - one is the official while the other contains some less X but all the boot/root diskettes. Dunno whether the latter is bootable.
After all you can still copy all the /slackware stuff to harddisk, boot from diskettes and install from pre-mounted...

Crealkiller, you appear to be frusted, and that is understandable. But if you relax, and read around a bit, maybe on the slackware site, I am sure there are other ways for you to get the install rolling. Maybe a boot floppy. Depending on how you burned the image, this could be a problem. Did you burn the image like a file, or actually place the image on the CD? Some winbloze programs don't allow the created of image files onto CD, so you may want to check any documentation that comes with it.

If in Linux, you can use cdrecord to burn it, and very easily at that. The syntax would be something like:
cdrecord dev=0,0,0 speed=16 -v -eject /home/iso/slack.iso

replacing each entry to suit your needs.

And no, it's not a "ploy" to trick you into buying a copy. Many others have had it work fine, me being one.

i used nero?! nero those giv u an option to make a bootabul cd but i never had to use option b4 it would just work fine as is when it was burnt ...?!

Why don't you just make a floppy disk and boot from floppy instead?! Instructions exist in one of the files on the first mandrake disc.

Anyway, Crealkiller stated the CD would boot OK on another P4 machine but not on his Celeron machine. That is why I suggested Smart Boot Manager to work around a BIOS limitation or CDROM mounting issue, etc with the new Slack boot format. The alternative is using six floppy disks. That is what I used until I discovered Smart Boot Manager.
