8.1 checksums changed?

Hi.

I downloaded a slackware 8.1 cd which had the md5 checksum of "5b435a931918ed9e9995bc30813913e1 ./slackware-8.1-install.iso"

Now i had a look on the same server at the checksums again and i noticed they changed to "0a39f9ea50d63a668e58703479f02da3 ./slackware-8.1-install.iso"

But why did they change the iso?

There might be a new iso with the apache security update.

This is what i thought it might be, but is it an *official* new iso? I read something in the ChangeLog about "Slackware 8.1.01-stable is released." but an official new iso hasn't been announced on the slackware page and i cant connect to ftp.slackware.com to get the md5sums from there....

Perhaps the md5sums should be posted in the slackware news

That first checksum you posted matches the one on my local mirror.
ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/raid/9/sl...ckware-8.1-iso

But if you have a look at
http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/slackwa.../CHECKSUMS.md5 or
http://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/ftp/m.../CHECKSUMS.md5

you'll see the other checksum...

The MD5Sum file at the other Australian mirror is the same, check here

Slackware.com isn't exactly up-to-date when it comes with announcements on their web page. Anyway, there are two versions, and the new one, as Aussie said, has the Apache update, among other things. Compare the file sizes:

Old Version: 688,816,128 bytes
New Version ("Slackware 8.1.01"): 689,405,952 bytes

The md5sums Sky listed are correct. I am hoping that all of the mirrors are updating the ISO. I got the new ISO from the Penn State mirror (address on Slackware's mirrors page).

Is it a problem installing from the 'old' 8.1 iso, if i don't install Apache from this CD, but compile it myself?

That would be fine Sky, there is even an upgrade package for apache available if you don't want to compile from source.
