3com X-jack under Slack 12 issues

Hello all,
This is my first post here so I figured I would make it a good one. I have an IBM T23 running Slackware 12 with a custom kernel. I've been trying to get my 3-Com X-Jack (3CRSHPW196) working, and have succeeded (kinda)at getting it to work. I can get online and it will work, but it is slow. How slow? how about 4.85 Mbps download speed using wired ethernet connection down to 45 kbps with my wireless. One of my friends who is heavy into Slack is attempting to help me, but he's gotten busy so I turn to you. Let me know of anything you can think of, I'll gladly try it to get back out of the Land of Dial-up Wifi.

Thanks

I'm out on a jobsite right now, but this is the iwconfig for my current connection. it only took about 10 minutes to load this thread.

More information: I installed wifi-radar and that seems to make it work a little easier, as long as the connection isn't encrypted, then I have to resort to #iwconfig eth1 key xxxxx. When I compiled the newest 2.6.23.8 kernel I built in the atmel_at76c502 kernel module, but on the initial reboot it said it couldn't find the atmel_at76c502_3com.bin driver in /etc/firmware. I found it and moved it from /usr/src. My friend seems to think it maybe some kind of firmware/driver issue, as he had this card working on his T23 under Slack 11. I don't know what else anyone may need to know, but I'm more than willing to try just about anything, short of a sledge-hammer.

Thanks again.
