Talking 2 simple questions

1. I want my mouse scroller to work, I have a Logitech MX 500 mouse.
2. I have just re-installed slack and now I want my new CD-RW to work.
I have added a "CD/DVD-Rom" shortcut on my desktop, the device for the shortcut is "/dev/hdd" wich is my cd-rw since my hda is my win hd and hdb is my slack hd and hdc is my cdrom.
So when I right click on the shortcut and press the button that makes the cdrw reader to pop out, the cdrw device pops out so that I can put in a cd.
But when I try to mount it, it says:

"Couldnt mount the device.
The error that was reported was:

mount: cant find /dev/hdd in /etc/fstab or /etc/mstab"

(that is just my translation of the error message since I got it in swedish)

well and here my /etc/fstab:

/dev/hdb1 / ext2 defaults 1 1
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,owner,ro 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,owner 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0

For the 2.

mkdir /mnt/cdrw
add to fstab :
/dev/hdd /mnt/cdrw iso9660 user,noauto,ro 0 0

(or owner instead user, as you like)
recreate your shortcut to point to /mnt/cdrw

For your mouse scroller (I am assuming with X-Windows), you need to edit your xorg.conf file and add in the Pointer section:

Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

I have a cheap, but decent quality optical ps/2 GE-brand wheel mouse that I got from Target. I use it with my laptop since my track point stinks. I followed all of the instructions for getting the wheel to work (ie. changing to IMP/2 and adding the "Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" line. Unfortunately, after I rebooted, the mouse went crazy. I couldn't control it. I managed to get to a terminal, change my settings BACK to PS/2, remove the ZAxis line and reboot. So now I have a functioning mouse but no wheel. Any suggestions?

maybe IMPS/2 was a bad protocol usage for your laptop... have you tried to just insert 'ZAxisMapping' part? That's the important part... but I know for me I had to switch my PS/2 to IMPS/2

Hope this helps...

It is different teams that provide X server, from the user point of view, it is nearly the same, each have his reason to use one instead of other.

The xorg.conf corresponds to the /etc/X11/XF86Config, the advices above work on both XFree and Xorg.
