2.6.7, reiserfs and corrupted tree
Hello everybody!
I have been using Slack for 3 years and it has always been solid as a rock. Recently I decided to try the 2.6.7 kernel from the testing folder of slackware-current. (2.6.8.1 wouldn;t work with cdrecord). Everything went smooth with the installation but since then I have experienced the following problem at least twice. While booting I got a message for missing libraries and corrupted tree (I use reiserfs). I booted from the rescue disk and gave fsck.reiserfs --rebuild-tree /dev/hda6, then copied from my backup the missing libraries and my box booted normally again. At first I though I had problem with HD but the smartctl shows that everything is ok with my HDD. I had that problem at least twice for a period of 15 days. Could it be bacause of the 2..6.7 kernel or has it to do with my system. Thanks in advance |
hi,
i dont't think that's the kernel: you are loosing data from your hd. does " smartctl " check on bad-blocks ? egag |
Hi, I often give long test with smartctl and I get no errors. I guess it includes bad sector test too...
