2.6.20 no mouse detected ps2? slack 11
it built clean and boots fine I just can not get mouse in console even
default slack 11.0 kernel no issues just curious if anyone ran into this issue upgrading kernels? I checked the kernel forum and also searched this forum but didn't see any reports of ps2 problem with 2.6.20 so thought I'd ask box is an old crate p200 192 megs of ram and ps2 mouse and xt keyboard ( I use an xt to ps2) adapter to my kvm so no keyboard issues I can report. its not an X config problem as have lack of mouse before that and yes have ran the slack install scripts to redo the mouse configs still no luck |
Did you change you mouse device to /dev/input/mice in /etc/X11/xorg? On 2.4.x kernels, the mouse device is /dev/mouse but on 2.6.x kernels its /dev/input/mice.

I'm talking in console but will double check my x11 configs

This is always my first sign when I botched the kernel module installation. If you are still having trouble, and haven't done so allready, make sure the psmouse module is loaded when you run 'lsmod'. If not, check your kernel instalation.

you are correct sir, udev is not loading my mouse or ps2 I guess never having to use udev before I got some reading to do ;)
thanks, would have replied sooner been busy past few days but decided to jump into this problem today |
okay I rebuilt the kernel a few times still same thing no mouse no other errors.
and no modules loaded I know this is a big big newbie question but what to look at next and I am talking console not X |
Do you have the rc.udev script made executable? In a console type "chmod 755 /etc/rc.d/rc.udev" and then /etc/rc.d/rc.udev restart". Does your lsmod output show any change after this?
|
sorry yes its the first thing i tried. and no lsmod remains empty
previous kernel build I had left my nic as a module this time I built it in so no modules and rc.udev is executable and restated and reloaded a few times no change. |
bump, cuz i had this problem also.
|
Hi, I believe the solution is to compile your kernel with ps/2 support and not as module. It worked to me.
|
Thanks, got it to work.
|
hmmm maybe I was blind I thought i had ps2 support enabled of course
can you point out which section of configs the ps2 support is in? I just want to check my eyesite:cool: I am now going with the theory my monitor is to small not that i am getting older ;) |
well I did a clean config and rebuilt the kernel again still no mouse in console I swear it has me puzzled. mouse ps2 is on and I also enabled ps2 through pci and still no go. what am I missing.

If lsmod shows up as empty, i thnk you must have forgotten to install the kernel-modules package on to your system.
Pop in the installation dvd, mount it, "cd" to the dvd location, and type "pkgtool" (you should be root). This will bring up a screen from which you can choose what you want to install. Check for something like kernel-modules and install it. I think that would take care of your problem.(Be careful though, I think you should stay away from installing the kernel headers.) |
but only with 2.6.20 and not with stock 11 kernal 2.4? thats what puzzles me its like some odd hardware issue with my box since 2.6.18 before that i could do 2.6.xx and no mouse issues I wrote it off till now just more playing around trying to figure out whats what.
