I just recompiled and upgraded (from 2.6.9), seems the same. I don't really do any hardcore number crunching or anything with my linux system, so I don't really know what to look for. However, so far so good.

I've got it installed on two systems without any problems. I haven't noticed any differences.

it boots faster :p

and i can write cds without patching something
:p

APM don't work as usual with the 2.6.x series... I'll stick with my 2.4.x series...

Installed 2.6.10 in two slack boxes yesterday, it broke the LM sensors on one; I'm just sitting down now to see what happened.
It might be my imagination, but both boxes seem to boot faster... Other than that, everything seems normal.

Parradux 12-26-2004 11:38 AM

Upgrading from 2.4x to 2.6.10.

The boot is much faster.
And the system feels faster overall.

enyawix 12-26-2004 07:40 PM

6/10 or 7/10

Positives make the system boot faster and apps seem more responsive. Handling of swap space looks much better. Negatives, I must mount my smartcard reader msdos because vfat no longer works. LM sensors not working but it never did so no big deal. I have not tried to burn a cd yet so I can not comment about cd burning. Reiser4 would be nice, but ooooh well next mm will be out soon. I give this kernel 6/10 as is, 7/10 if non root cd burning works.

It definitely makes the computer boot faster...

That's the first thing I noticed.

masand 12-26-2004 11:18 PM

my sytem is little fast than the previous one with the same config file

I had to disable udev (once again) to get my Maxtor external hard drive up and running. Other than that, everything else is working quite well!

DaWallace 12-27-2004 12:15 AM

overall I'm very impressed.. the boot time is nice.. and programs like gaim and the gimp started noticably faster.. galeon took a while... probably not related tothe kernel and more related to the fact that I restored my last session and had over 20 tabs open...
everything seems more responsive and the nvidia drivers actually worked this time..

I'm using 2.6.9, everythign is working apart from a few apps (not the kernels fault, my fault or build errors) and the ati drivers (awful as ever)

Is it worth me upgrading to 2.6.10 at the moment?

enyawix 12-27-2004 01:35 AM

-0- go 2.6.10 well worth your time. The more I use this kernel the more I like it.
