2.6.10 compile trouble

My 2.6.10 kernel compile (I followed the directions on http://www.digitalhermit.com/linux/K....html#BUILDING )
seems to be working pefectly and quickly except for two problems I have. First of all, the console screen has been miniaturized (480x640 I think) on my big screen, and I would like to fix this so that it is back at its previous 1024x768 ratio. I also have a question about firmware, mainly about how to load/compile it for my drivers, because I seem to have forgotten how to load/comile it. Thanks!

i don't use framebuffer for my consoles
(standard vga has always been nice for me)

perhaps you need to edit your lilo.conf setting for the framebuffer
8bit at 1024x768 would be '0x305'

Compile in framebuffer and VESA driver;
Set vga=773 in lilo.conf
Run 'lilo'
viola.

but BE SURE that your kernel is configured to have support for framebuffer consoles!!
otherwise you'll get a black screen at the time of loading the modules at boot..

that happened to me the first time I ever compiled a kernel on my own, I was stuck with a black screen and thought I had done something seriuosly wrong, but a few minutes searching on google sorted my problem.

it's perfectly possible to have framebuffer support, but that involves
a bit more of kernel recompilation, so it's better in a failsafe mode

I dont have a blank screen. The console is just a bit smaller than usual.
